About Me

Hi, my name is Randy Hill and I am just one of thousands of people around the world, tired and frustrated with the lack of consideration that is displayed by a growing "demographic" that I call, "the great unwashed and ill-mannered." People who can't seem to get outside their little world long enough to see the stress that they create on the rest of the population.

I've created this blog and online store as an outlet for this pent-up frustration...and also to have a little devious fun while I'm at it!

Have fun and keep it down while you're in here. Thanks.

[When Randy isn't whining about noisy and rude people, he dreams up designs in his studio at Hill Design Studios. A native Texan, Randy resides in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with his wife Dawn and four cats]

Welcome to Forgotten Manners Friday, when I dig up some quaint rules of etiquette and manners from long ago… This week: Table Manners Do not play with the table utensils or crumble the bread. Do not put your elbows on the table, or sit too far back, or lounge Do not talk loud or boisterously […]

Respect for those who have left us

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

The other day, I was thinking back to when I was a kid growing up in central Texas. I can remember riding with my grandfather one afternoon in his 1949 Ford. We were driving along Highway 21 towards San Marcos, Texas and I can remember a funeral procession of cars coming toward us from the […]

Go on…spread a little love today

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Every once in awhile, I have to take a break from all my whining and complaining about rude and obnoxious people and try to remember to spread a little love around. So when I head for lunch today, I’m going to let cars pull in front of me who need to get into my lane […]

Try a little patience on the street

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

I am growing desperately weary of the behavior of people when they get in their cars and get out on the road. Something happens between the front door of their home and the front seat of their car. Some kind of disconnect. Things you wouldn’t dream of doing in a public setting, sans car, somehow […]

Air-travel etiquette: How to avoid hassles

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

This is a great article by Beth Harpaz on boning up on your air travel manners. Here are the basics: Be discreet – “If there’s ever been a time in your life where you don’t want to attract more attention to yourself, it’s on a plane.” Respect the crew – In May, a California man […]

The Vatican’s 10 Commandments for the Road

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

The Vatican released its “Drivers Ten Commandments” on Tuesday. Cardinal Renato Martino, who heads the office, told a news conference that the Vatican felt it necessary to address the pastoral needs of motorists because driving had become such a big part of contemporary life. “We know that as a consequence of transgressions and negligence, 1.2 […]

Parking Rage

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

I’m feeling a little (just a smidgen) guilty. I went to Walmart yesterday – and oh how I loathe that place – to pick up a couple of things. My son-in-law was with me and I stopped in front of the door briefly so he could get out and get started with his shopping while […]

Not Just Your Grandmother’s Rules Anymore

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Kate Hayes In the morning I wake up much earlier than my husband, so I move as quietly as I can, shut the bathroom door before I turn on the light, and avoid the squeaky board in the floor as I make my way in the dark to the kitchen. I have always thought this […]

Flag Day – Old Fashioned or Overdue?

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

It’s Flag Day today. That may or may not mean anything to you and whether or not it strikes an emotional chord may be more of a matter of when you were born. I was born in the mid 1950s and grew up during both a conservative and historical period of upheaval in American society. […]

Reviving the lost art of good manners

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Teaching etiquette in an age of e-mails and texting By Kathy Hall For etiquette expert Laurajane Wikoff, good manners are more than knowing the proper use of a dinner napkin. They are an antidote to the stresses of today’s hectic, computer-focused lifestyle and a crucial component of social, interpersonal and business success. “We are a […]
