About Me

Hi, my name is Randy Hill and I am just one of thousands of people around the world, tired and frustrated with the lack of consideration that is displayed by a growing "demographic" that I call, "the great unwashed and ill-mannered." People who can't seem to get outside their little world long enough to see the stress that they create on the rest of the population.

I've created this blog and online store as an outlet for this pent-up frustration...and also to have a little devious fun while I'm at it!

Have fun and keep it down while you're in here. Thanks.

Rudeness reaches new depths

By Randy | April 23, 2007

Where do we go from here?

I found the following story quoted in an April 5th, San Francisco Chronicle article by C.W. Nevius to be both funny and frightening at the same time. The article refers to an actual encounter that Danville business travelor Jerry Lasky had with a rude cell phone user:

“I was sitting there, sipping my coffee,” Lasky says. “And he’s marching back and forth while engaging in a loud, animated cell phone conversation.”

Lasky tried to ignore the intrusion, but finally he and the “yell phoner” made eye contact. And sure enough, the guy walked over to Lasky.

“You know,” he said, “I’m engaging in a private conversation here. Could you move down a couple of tables so you aren’t listening in?”

Phillip Redman, a telecom analyst from the research and polling firm Gartner, who tracks the trends, blames situations like the above on the wearing away of basic social skills.

“A lot of it is eroding social skills,” he says. “We used to talk face-to-face, or write letters with a formal salutation. Now we communicate with text messages or e-mails. People are so involved in their own circle, they don’t even think about how it impacts others.”
