Holland has had it with cell phones
By Randy | August 1, 2007
I don’t normally think of people in Holland as capable of getting cranky. Sure, the wooden shoes can get uncomfortable, but then there are the marijuana bars where they can go let some steam off. Now it seems the Dutch folk are fed up with loud cell phone talking and ring tones.
At least 65% of the Dutch population find loud mobile phone conversations and having to listen to other people’s mobile telephone conversations annoying. These are the two pet peeves of the Dutch regarding the use of mobile phones. These are the findings of a survey entitled: ‘Telecom Monitor 2006’, carried out by Newcom & Consultancy.
Irritation about having to listen unintentionally to other people’s conversations on the mobile has increased compared to 2006. Ring tones are also a cause of irritation for 43% of the Dutch. Thirty-eight percent don’t like it when the phone is picked up while the person answering the phone is simultaneously conducting another call. Ring tones that are far too loud take up the fifth place in the top five of cell phone nuisances (37 percent).
